My new Kelty backpack from Gander Mountain in Williamsport was perfect for this trip (thanks Trevor!). It performed extremely well considering the constant movement and load it carried. It functioned as a carryon for the plane and as a daypack. It did triple duty as a DAT carry case. (I have mixed feelings about bringing the DAT. See my recording notes for more comments.) Individually wrapped/sanitized hand wipes (aka baby wipes) were indispensable on the mountain in OR and other places where paper towels were not available. Gas-X and Immodium were very comforting at times. A small Maglight flashlight was useful on the mountain and at gigs. Of course, documenting this trip with photos would not have been as easy without the FujiPix 2600 Digital Camera, and it was a good thing I brought extra NiMh and NiCa batteries and a charger. I upgraded to an SCH-A310 Samsung cell phone before the tour. It performed well in most cases, but there were times when it failed miserably. Perhaps it wasn't so much the phone, but the Verizon wireless service, but in Bellvue, WA we lost signal completely, causing much confusion. Of course there was no signal on "The Land" which was somewhat fitting, so I had to use my calling card. I knew I was probably not going to have an audience as a solo performer during the tour. I was focused on the Bodó Band for the shows, but I thought it would be a good idea to bring some CDs of my own just in case. I had helped the Bodó Band package their CDs for the tour, and they brought around 80. I knew that I didn't need to bring that many of mine, so I brought 10 of each. They came in handy for trades with other bands throughout the tour. Wrinkle-out spray, originally brought to counteract the wrinkles
from packing my clothes, had the additional benefit of being
scented, cutting down on the number of times I absolutely had
to do laundry. I was also glad I brought a towel because we were
usually not provided with them. |
