The Subject Tonight is Love - Trans. Daniel
Ladinsky
Jan 2006 - This book contains "60 wild and sweet poems
of Hafiz" and is easily readable in one or two sittings.
It was enjoyable and worth reading multiple times.
Some may feel this collection is too short
given the cover price, but I find that poetry like this
is best in small bits. The spacing of the words is perfect,
adding air to the pieces.
I have Ladinsky's other set of translations
The Gift, which I highly recommend. I do not believe
there is any duplication in the pieces.
Ladinsky himself sounds like an interesting
character. After an epiphany in the Arizona desert, he traveled
to India to study culture and spiritual pursuits there.
