The Columbia County Historical Society is considering a historical marker for the Molly Maguires. Molly Maguire historian Steve Varonka (svaronka@ptd.net) is looking for local business support in the community to make this a reality. The marker would state the execution location and the fact that Pennsylvania's legislature officially considers the trial unfair.

Watershed: The Journal of the Susquehanna (Call for Submissions)

Watershed is now accepting submissions for the second issue of Watershed: The Journal of the Susquehanna, slated for publication in January 2009. The reading period is March 1 to September 1, 2008. Watershed is an interdisciplinary annual print journal. The journal’s mission is to promote environmental awareness of the Susquehanna watershed region, which includes parts of New York state, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. Watershed promotes the region’s culture, history, literature, and art and seeks thought-provoking nonfiction on environmental issues, regional history, local culture, and top quality and inventive poetry and fiction. Quality black and white photography is welcome as well. While contributors need not reside in the Susquehanna region, the work must evoke the Susquehanna and its hills, valleys, and, most importantly, its people. Submission guidelines for MINDSPEAK.COM

If your organization wishes to submit something for this calendar, please follow these guidelines:

The focus here is diversity, music and theatre in Central PA.
Purely political events will not be given consideration
All events must have who, what, where, when (date, time, place).
A contact number, email and web site are helpful if available.
When submitting times, do not use punctuation.
Plain text only (no embedded hyperlinks or graphics - they won't pass, and I don't send attachments).

Submissions may be trimmed for space and checked for grammar, but I will not proofread dates as they are expected to be correct.
