Prior to 1998 (before the AIS site was taken down due to a server change) there was a tremendous response to this column from the web and other sources. The response was SO GOOD, I had to weigh the time and energy of writing a music column for the web against my own marketing, performing and recording efforts. As a result, I am screening submissions, and will only rarely post a new story. If you are interested in being featured in Art in Society please email me first If you are DIY artist (especially if you are located in Northeast or Central PA) or if you just plain want a critique, drop me a line.
Tell me a little about yourself. I'm especially looking for new or unusual acts. I'm also trying to branch out into world music, East Indian music, ambient and jazz. I'm not providing a mailing address, because I don't want you to send materials until we've had a chance to chat. This benefits everyone, since there's no sense in wasting your press kits and postage if a story will not be written.
HISTORY & BASIC GUIDELINES
Originally a music/arts column for two Northeast PA newspapers (The Journal Herald & The Journal-Valley Views), Art in Society is now active on the Web.
Approximately once each month Art In Society will be taking a look at a local artist or organization. Art In Society is designed to help local artists in their attempts to build a carrier in the arts (esp. via the Web) and to provide additional exposure to artists who have had little. While all submissions will be honored for our column, we are especially interested in unpublished artists. Professional submissions will be kept on file only for special features.
Art In Society is composed by Jeremy dePrisco, a singer songwriter.
IMPORTANT: Submission of your materials implies consent to use images, logos and information (NOT soundbites) for web publishing as part of this column. Submissions will NOT be returned unless accompanied with a postage pre-paid package, adequate packaging and return address. All reviews, critiques and opinions expressed in Art in Society are those of the writer only.
